    Default wall mount dust extractor

I have a 2HP carbatec dust extractor and am wondering if anyone has succesfully been able to mount to a wall to free up floor space.

No but I once had a 1hp sherwood dusty hanging from a floor joist in my workshop under my high-set house. I dont know whether I would try that with a 2hp but depending on the circumstances, it may be worth a shot.

I see no reason why not. I have the tradesman version of the 2hp carbatec dusty and split it. I didnt use wheels or base, and turned motor/impeller 90 degrees by attaching it to 40 mil mdf which is close coupled (4 inches of flexi pipe) to the filter/bag unit. The mdf is attached to the wall and concrete bench. I know a photo would be more informative but never done that.

    Regards

One problem I can think of is that if the wall is not really rigid the vibe could make the wall resonate and noise levels might increase. This happened to me when I put my DC outside in an enclosure. The DC was initially suspended from the walls of the enclosure but it generated less noise if it was left free standing on the ground.

Two questions... what kind of wall and how do you plan to mount it?

If you are talking an 8" besser brick wall I would say you wont have a problem, but if you say a thin fibreboard wall with widely placed bearers I would say think twice.

Also how you hang it is going to have a direct impact on how well it needs to be supported. The closer the bulk of the weight is to the wall the lesser the requirements will be.

Basic rule of thumb the greater the area you can span the weight over, the easier it will be on the wall.

I've been doing this only today - I've bolted mine directly to the 190 C purlin supporting the mezzanine. According to my bathroom scales, the motor and impeller weigh a tad over 30kg, That's not a huge load to support. About the same as a 42" plasma tv.

Now thats something I never thought of, My TV collects dust too! I need to fill my garage with TV's, they can collect all the dust, then I can carry them outside and wipe them all off (wearing a dustmask of course) then put them back inside to collect more. I bet a TV collects more dust than a vacuum cleaner releases due to daily atmospheric pressure changes. Problem solved!!!
