We had a window on the sides of our wheelie bins. from about half way to the top, at the mens shed
The window was made of polycarbonate and used two, 12 x 2mm welded metal strap rectangles and a dozen gutter bolts, all sealed with silicone sealant to hold it in place.
Initially it was located with the window on the inside but the Cyclone pressure kept slightly sucking it away from the inside of the wheelie bin.

I moved the windows to the outsides of the bins so the pressure sucked the window onto the outside of the bins. I don't know how long that lasted because not long after that the wheelies were exchanged for a metal drums. I don't think there's a window in the drums and from time to time when its not emptied soon enough sawdust has been escaping the cyclone and blowing into the mens shed car park.

Can't help with the thread you're looking for, but I can offer that in my last shop I used a fiber barrel with a 3/4" plywood lid. I let a window into that plywood top into which I installed a clear plexiglass viewing panel. The plexiglass panel was inserted from the bottom of the lid and was flush to the bottom of the lid so that dust would be blown off it's surface. Small LED lighting strips were mounted in routed recess into the plywood lid immediately next to each side of the opening and the plexiglass panel installed to cover both the opening and the LED strips. It worked well and I will do it again for the installation in this new shop that I'm currently working on.

This is my SketchUp drawing for this next installation (Clear Vue CVMAX). The vertical posts are the sensors for the Clear Vue Bin level sensor. Wiring for the LED light strips is not shown, but it is simply twisted pair 12v wiring to a toggle switch to an AC/DC adapter.

I have a 150 litre Poly drum under my 2hp dusty, I just used a 50mm holesaw, punched 3 holes vertically near the lid to watch the dust rise. Found some 12mm clear polycarbonate sheet, turned 3 pieces into 60mm discs with a 50mm step and siliconed them in from the inside. Works a treat, no light required.

Just in case newbies are reading this, sealed from the inside is correct for a conventional dust collector, other way around for a cyclone.
Also if the DC located or vented outside a perfect seal is not needed for a conventional DC. However a good seal is required for a cyclone bin.
