my workshop ducting, completed with photos.
I've spent some stupid amount of money on my new modular duct(about $2000 AUD), very fast to install and can be reused, still require 2 persons to do it, no welding and silicon required, everything locks together nicely, the thickness of the duct is about 0.7mm, the ducting are made in Denmark by JKF Industri
some basic info:
20inch impeller, 4kw motor, 1450RPM, bag house unit by Holytek
main duct size: 250mm (should I have used 200mm like BobL said?)
sander dust hood: 150mm
total distance from sander to fan inlet: 3m (vertical+horizontal)
combination machine dust hood: 3 x 100mm
total distance from combination to fan: 6-7m (vertical+horizontal)
experience to date:
· the suction for the wide belt sander is very strong with the original dust hood(150mm) only, I tried with a secondary duct/hood(150mm) at the back of the sander, the suction on the top hood decreased quite a lot.
· the suction for the 3x100 is considerably weeker... the suction is not affected with WBS original dust hood blast gate being opened or closed, any thoughts?

Ducting looks really good.
Pity you couldn't get the DC outside because it looks like it consumes a lot of valuable shed space?
Some of that wood looks pretty nice too - what is it?

yes it does occupy a lot of shop space, placing the extractor outside will be next year's goal, probably upgrade to a bigger unit too.... cant do it this year because my budget for woodworking machinery purchase has been consumed by the 3 phase installation, a new Minimax S400P bandsaw and a new Masterwood chisel mortiser...
Thats 200mmx25mm Jarrah lying on the combi machine, Kwila/Saligna/Wallaba on the rack
I might onsale the Jarrah because its too nice and I cant think of a good use for them... I do small production stuff and I dont make one off item.

Nice looking installation!
I upgraded my 22"/44" drum sander from a 100 mm port to a single 150 mm port, and am pleased with the result, but your machine is much bigger.
A solution with three 100 mm ports was considered, but there were concerns about ports fighting each other for air and creating dead spots ... and a single 150 mm port was simpler and easier. It was necessary to cock the front hood open a bit to increase airflow INTO the machine.
My experience is that of all my machines the drum sander improved the least when converted from a 1 HP (100 mm) dusty to a 4 HP (150 mm) cyclone. The biggest improver was the linisher, which was filthy with the small dusty. They are both sanders, but the big difference seems to be the hood on the drum sander. Sanders produce a lot of dust, but the particles are low mass and therefore have low momentum making them easier to pick up if they are in the moving stream of air.
Have fun!
