    Default Wrap PVC in foil

    Hi,
I came across a website on "grounding" PVC and the suggestion was wrapping the PVC ducting in grounded foil is the best, followed a long way behind by grounded screws every 100mm, followedby grounding wires either internal or external.

Anyone used foil on their duct work?

    Default Not needed

This is an old thread but there was no answer to it so....

Real quick reply is that no earthing is required for home workshop sized PVC ducting for dust collection. Seach the internet or contact a fire service and you will not be able to find a fire or explosion caused by any 1500 CFM or less system.

    Hope this helps

Electric shocks off of the ungrounded PVC is the hazard - aluminium tape is pretty cheap on eBay, and the glue they use is conductive and pretty darn sticky, so I did what Bill Pentz suggested (don't like getting electric shocks next to the table saw when it's on ), and it works a treat. You need to make some sort of roller on a stick to flatten the tape onto the inside of longer pipe runs - an old tennis ball with some fencing wire through it and twisted round, then shoved into an end-bored hole worked for me. It's a bit of a puzzle pulling the tape through, then the backing off the tape, as well. Another reason to use 6" duct.
