Great Job there Fly. I had a 1928 Roadster when i was 16, man what i would give to have it now.. I like your wheels or you going to paint it? i like the wood what is it? i never thought about doing a car. i've built a truck, but just let it come out how ever it did, so don't know what it is. It's like a old ford with dodge fenders. i think i'll stay with wagons...

I think it's all been said, Peter. Doesn't look like firewood to me either. In fact, it's looking pretty good. Great going.
Don't get disheartened now, mate.
I have a tiny piece of QLD Maple here, a 170mm x 50mm turning blank. Pretty small, I'm afraid. Let me know if it would help and I'll pop it down to you. It cost me nothing, was thrown in as a bonus with one of my Pop's Shed orders. I had a look last night and they don't appear to have more in stock right now.
Another alternative is to make a black hood, from ebonised timber. I'll probably go that way myself.... Steve

G'day Gary. I wish you still had the '28 too. I'm building one from the '30 plans, making changes as necessary to turn the '30 into a '28. Be great to get some real measurements.
Main differences I've found are in the radiator, bonnet and cowling and the '28 spare was on the rear.... Steve

Been a week so thought I better update.
Gave it a first coat of wop even though its not together yet.
Not sure how many coats it will get.
It a lot darker after one coat, hope it doesn't get darker again.
The roof isn't on and the body isn't on the rails yet.
I also have not put in tail lights?? no sure about that yet.
Also need to glue wheels on.
Used 2mm copper wire for the handles and the luggage rack.
Also used it for the bar under the headlights.
The lights by the spares I made but I had some spare headlights from rockler so I used them on it instead of making them.
Don't like the mat on the running board, looks dumb that small.
Not sure if I'll glue the roof on, I have some 2mm diam 5mm long rare earth magnets, Might use that to stick it there.
I also gave away the whole steering mech, No-ones going to turn the wheels and with a roof glued on it would be too hard to use the wheel anyway (may be ok for a top down version.
Will take some better pictures in the daylight.

That looks really good mate. You've done well.
See, it's not rolling firewood after all.
Edit: Those grab-handles worked well.... Steve

I guess something that doesn't take 4 weeks to do.
Need to do a rolling butchers block so I can get the 60kg meat slicer off my kitchen bench.
I've cut up all the redgum for the endgrain top, need to glue it. I've got that jarrah wine barrel I can use for sides and legs.
I also got some very nice 6 inch square foot long cypress pine blocks that I will turn into bandsaw boxes.
But, on the side may be a Dalek. Just a 2 footer, Not full size, I have full size plans, but will do cm instead of inches.

You've done a great job on the model Peter.
WELL DONE.
You hung in there and finished the project and can be very proud of the results, top effort.
If I may please, a few more photos would be a treat, thank you.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, crowie

Great job Peter. It looks fantastic. By the way it didn't seem extra slow about normal pace for most of us. There are the superstars like kelrob that churn them out faster but that is a different story
Do you have any ideas what you might build next?

Thanks guys,
It went a lot darker that I thought with WOP.
I think I also put the rear guards in the wrong place and don't like the little running board mat. And I never put the gearbox underneath.
For the next one I'm tempted by the mercedes in the antique models in wood book. looks like the mary poppins one ( i know its not even the same maker).
I need to do the rolling butchers block to get the meat slicer of the kitchen bench. But seeing I can use bolts and nails etc it should be a lot quicker to build, the roadster is all glue, clamp and wait till tomorrow.
I also got plans from projectdalek.co.uk might make a 2 foot one, so when you press on the black bumper the lid lifts as a bin.
Still got about 8 handsaws to refurbish. Seeing I don't mind sanding this is ok work.
And I want to knock up a few boxes for stuff. Just wish a small pair of hinges didn't cost more than the timber and you could get small clips easier.
Been using magnets for clips, not the best when it falls.
I also got some BIG 6 inch square cypress pine blocks about 12 inch long will make some bandsaw boxes to store and give away.
Till next time...
