    Default Progress Finally!!!

Thank You guys for the support.

Derek you are correct. Problem is I am trying to use up a bunch of small offcuts.

Peter thank you. Nick had a great birthday. Many screaming boys having fun for about 4 hours = His Mom and I had headaches! HA

HTL that is a great idea. I will have to mess around with my scanner and find out the correct percentage to scan them and print them out.

Sorry for the delay toy and scale makers. I had a small minor health issue of some discomfort coupled with the triple digit heat kept me out of the shop and not motivated.

    I made headway today.

Gluing up the front axle and spring assembly

Next up was cutting a rebate at the front end of the frame. Cut it on the tablesaw.

    20170803_104936 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Cleaned it up with a file.

    20170803_105122 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Springs glued onto frame. I measured them 3 times hope they are in the right spot.

I picked out two Walnut boards to make the wheels out of, but I plan on painting them black so I instead pulled to 100 yr pine boards that I just acquired from my stash.

They needed to be milled to 11/16" thick.

    20170803_110418 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

My new super sled I made for the tablesaw made short work of cutting 2 3/4" square wheel blanks. I absolutely love the flip up stop.

    20170803_111057 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

The truck requires 10 wheels but I will be making 14 for some spares.

    20170803_111142 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Center marked out and used the compass to mark the rough shape so I could chop the corners off on the bandsaw for less work on the lathe.

    Ready for the lathe.

    20170803_114443 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Turned to size on the lathe and treads cut.

    20170803_120141 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Boring out the center with a 1 1/4" forstner for the wheel hub.

    20170803_122045 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Rough shape. Still needs some details.

    20170803_122601 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

    20170803_122618 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

The grain of the Pine kinda takes away the tread detail but it should show up better once they are painted.

    Derek one of my stubbies.

    20170803_122651 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Andy's nephew is quite pleased with himself.

    20170803_122659 by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Quick mockup for the front. Still need to turn 6 more wheels. I was just too hot in the shop to continue.

That's it for today. Sorry the update took so long.

    Bret,

Sorry I missed your post until today.

Your work is first class mate. Doesn't matter what you look like in the shed.

It's you shed and you are achieving top outcomes

    Bret
I have now got six or seven of them kicking around you would expect that being small they would get lost easier than a full size pencil but no the seem to stay on the bench.
Wheels are looking good and the build is also looking great

It should be a straight copy unless your shrinking the plans like I like to do.
The smaller pictures are 1/2 size.
One other thing that comes in handy if you need to make extra like 9 copy's of some thing just go into print and select 9 or what ever #picture to a page they will be smaller but there are times when this has saved my bacon.

3 years later but better than never...

Andy pulled the tow truck out of the drawer and got to work on it again.

He seems pretty happy with himself.

Now that all the tires are made time for the wheels.

1950's Tow Truck by bjohnson388, on Flickr

I am planning to paint all the tires Black so I tested one to see how it's going to look.

All the rear wheel hubs made.

1950's Tow Truck by bjohnson388, on Flickr

Front hubs are a bit more involved.

Then on to the lathe for final shaping.

Center and lug holes drilled and then lugs glued in.

    Andy is all smiles today!

Well done Andy, no use gathering dust when sawdust can be made.
Great to see you back on the woodwork toys Bret.
    Cheers Peter
