T&J 1950's Tow Truck
Got these plans in the mail yesterday. This one is modeled very closely to a Mack B Model. I have wanted to scratch build one for years so I thought maybe I would grab this plan build one and it would give me some good insight for my scratch build.

So first off is the frame. Piece of Maple leftover from the Scania build. After I cut this I forgot how wonderful it smells. Haven't used any hardwoods in a project for quite some time.

Since I don't have alot of parts left to finish the Mack Superliner I have been making pieces in between waiting on the glue to dry on the Mack B. I thought I would just throw it in here instead of starting a new thread since they are pretty much finished.
Sleeper box being glued up.

I also rounded over the bottom edge on the back of the cab like the real truck.

Sleeper all rounded over.

You can tell the Pine on the truck has aged quite a bit over the last 7 years compared to fresh cut sleeper.

That's it for today. Thanks for looking in.

I'm in for this one!
Great start but you made me head hurt. LOL
Looked through the pictures and we're building a wrecker down a ways and it's another build, had to back track to see whats going on.
I started to buy these plans but then got into another train build, now I'll get to see what I missed.

Cool Evening
Had a very nice evening last night for this time a year. A rain storm came through about 5p and brought the temp from 97* down to 80*. It was wonderful in the shop so spent 2 hours out there last night after work.
Rear axle spacer I glued this up from 2 scraps.

One awesome thing about these full size plans is you can just measure right off of them and start marking your parts.

Gluing the axle in place.

So here is a little mess up I fixed. The axle block came out just a hair too narrow. So off to the hardwood model cutoffs drawer.

Found this piece.

To fill in this gap. I don't really like showing my mistakes but they happen and the fun is finding a way to fix them so that nobody notices.

I took the front axle over to the router table to round over the edges but the hole in my table was too big and the axle tilted and I ended up have to hand sand it all down. Almost mucked it up.

Quick Mockup
20170715_201650 by bjohnson388, on Flickr
These spacers are for the rear bogies so they can articulate a little bit.
20170715_202125 by bjohnson388, on Flickr
You may notice my holes are a different size. The plans call for 5/16" axles but in my opinion that is way out of scale so I went with 1/4" instead.

Hope to get some more progress done today. Since we had the storm last night it is suppose to only be 93* today so let's hope.
Thanks for stopping in.

The build is looking good. I have a scrap draw like with loads of bits and pieces certainly have had to dive into it when I need a small piece made and don't want to cut a chunk off the end of a whole board.
Looking good Bret it is good to see people making these silly mistakes and find that we all learn from them when we make them.
I never make mistakes just don't read my last post in my build

Mistakes are my helpers domain,
I just re-engineer.......
Good progress Bret, keep cool. Cheers, Peter

Lousy Progress
I have made lousy progress on the tow truck and anything project wise. Between the triple digit heat, inventory at work, and minor health issue I have not got much done. However I have made a few small bits. Wanted to post it up so you guys didn't think I abandoned this thread.
The springs for the front axle you can see on the right.
The main piece in the photo is one of the two rear axle assemblies.

This little vise my father in law gave me many years ago works great for these small pieces.

Rounding over the casing. I used the router with a roundover bit to make the front axle but using the file by hand was much better.

Looking good Bret and it is always great to get back making. A little late now but when the rear axle housing was still attached to the long length of wood could you not have routed it then while you had something that you can clamp to hold it while routing. I know it would mean that it would need to be cut to shape on the timber, hope that made sense.
There is an old saying "He who never made a mistake never made anything"
As for looking silly who cares as long as it helps make you feel comfortable sound like something I could do with

Yes Bret, Life can sometimes get in the way of our enjoyable hobby plus you have 2 boys who need your attention not to mention one having a birthday next week...
Saying all that, you are one top model maker Bret, keep the good work coming, even if slowly.. Cheers, Peter

Looking great!!!
May I make a suggestion if you have a copier just copy and print the parts, cut them out and with some stick Elmore's glue stick it to the wood and save yourself a lot a work and mistakes.
I tried the spray on glue but it didn't like me.
Then just belt sand the paper off and your all set and way ahead of the game.
