Another Top Notch Model Steve. Even if you don't like it as much your work in progress was very enjoyable and you and everyone following learned something. Sometimes the journey is more enjoyable than the finish line. Look forward to the FC when you get around to it. Had a peak at your wood turnings. Already you are doing well with the lathe. Keep posting your work and stories are very enjoyable.

Hey Bret. Thanks for that. And it was fun to build.
So far so good with the turning. I'm sitting here tonight hand-sharpening all my tools with W&D paper. A slow process, but it does result in a nice edge. I ordered my grinder the other day, but they're out of stock and put it on back-order. Will be 10-15 days. Lucky I bought the carbide tool set.... Steve

Steve we are our own worst critics, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. Learn from any mistakes I know I have made plenty, just not sure if I have learnt.
Hope you had an enjoyable time with and look forward to some nicely turned wheels for your future models OH and a few bowls maybe

Steve,
Well.................
This being the holiday season and our just moving leaves me with little time for the Camel.....I am going to try and get some more engine work done now and then. The challenge is that my workspace in our downsized house is now the repository for all the 'stuff' we haven't figured out where else to put. and now we have found the Christmas decorations so they are being put out as well....(the storage boxes are now also in my 'office'.....)
In addition, it seems like we are entertaining visitors here in South Florida about every week.....
Let me say that I am not complaining, it just gets in the way of some of my fun hobby time.
Cheers,
Jim

Hi Derek. You're right, we are our own worst critics. I think that's a good thing - a form of quality control.
Next up is another bowl. I've laminated up a nice-sized (180mm x 90mm) blank from Camphor Laurel, New Guinea Rosewood and Canarywood.
I'm off to woodturning class with right now. I'll probably post some pics and/or video later, in the ''s Rambles' thread.... Steve

Steve, A great little model, watched your progress on the build , I'm very slack when it comes to work in progress on my models , but your WIP is greatly admired.
The VW reminds me of my neighbour in the early sixties, a headmaster at a country High School, purchased a VW, drove it for a couple of years and had a minor prang, the local Constable wanted to see his licence, it was out of date by about 3 years, his excuse , I thought it was current, didn't know I had to pay for it yearly.
A brilliant headmaster, but couldn't use a hammer. John.

I'll have to get those daylight snaps tomorrow Pete.
We didn't part company until just over an hour ago, (7pm). As soon as I got home I raced in to my lathe and quickly went through a couple of things again. Then it was getting dark.....
Boy the day went fast, we went from 10am to 7pm and it felt like only a couple of hours. I got a shock when I got home and saw the time.
A great day, and I (we) learned heaps. Between the demos and some guided hands-on, I'm feeling much more confident now than I was.
Charlie, (chuck1), who hosted the day, is already an experienced trade turner, so got to talk shop with someone besides just us beginners.
Took a few snaps over the course of the day. I'll post them shortly in the ''s Rambles' thread.... Steve

Thank you Eddie.
It came up reasonably OK and, probably more importantly, I learned a lot from this build. I've got a long way to go before my work reaches the quality of your's, though, if ever.
The FC will be a real test. I'll play around with some turning for a little while, then get stuck into it.... Steve

Your bug turned out fantastic. I learned a lot from watching you build it, thanks for sharing. Already looking forward to the next one.
