Very nice Bret, not quite woodwork BUT it's a model hot rod in the making.... large scale ....
Can you use the engine from your old beast or do this one have to be stripped & rebuilt with a few dozen modifications??
You've certainly filled the hanger up quickly, it'd be great to have that much space to spread & be organized....
Keep on HOT RODDING, timber or metal and keep the photos coming, cheers, crowie

UPDATE
It seems Andy has given me a good kick to jump start this backup again.
After about 2 hours of head scratching and printing, cutting and taping a bunch of to scale drawings I think I have figured out how to shape the main body. Not sure how its going to come out but this Mark I body is being made out of pine so if I screw up no harm.
Top view and sideview
1" thick pine sides cut to length and height of drawing
Top view. I am going to try and make the body one solid piece by gluing up 4. I have drawn centerlines in both directions to help keep me straight.
The top and sides glued together. The top is 1/4" thick. Not sure what size the bottom is going to be still trying to figure that out. The body has compound curves. Front to back, side to side, and top to bottom. Fortunately I have a 1/25 scale plastic model of a 32' so I'm measuring parts I don't have a scale drawing of with calipers and converting to 1/10 scale.
This piece of pine on the top came from a drawer of a desk that belong to my grandad. He bought it in the late 50's and was one of those pieces of furniture you put a finish on yourself. It is gorgeous pine. I thought it would be cool to use some plus it was already planed 1/4". Back when they use to make real furniture out of real wood.
It would be so sweet if it actually came out anywhere close to looking like this.
This is going to be quite a challenge to pull off. If I can manage it I think my momentum for the build will pick back up.
Andy says piece of cake...

Looking good Bret. I'm looking forward to seeing how you go about the body. It might give me some inspiration for my FC. Like you, I bought a 1:25 model for measurements.
I think a pine prototype is a good idea, too. Might have to steal that one.
The VW's caravan is next, though, when I can tear myself away from the woodturning.... Steve

Thank You Steve. Anything I can do to help motivate. Poor J&J and Script are the only ones plugging away in the scale forum. I like the idea of using the pine for the first as if I mess up I won't be off...too much
Its nice to have someone to talk to. LOL
Thank you Derek. Its more of a high stool than a chair. LOL This scratch building is all new territory hope I can live up to the expectations.
Not alot of time spent today but I did get some done. I finally got all of templates figured out. Cutout the sides first, then the bottom piece that was waste, and then the part tops and bottom parts.
Template for the bottom. I really couldn't find anything so I am just going to make the body fit right over the frame so I used it as the inside template.
First side cut. I really wasn't sure where to make the first cut. So I thought the side is the trickiest.
Nest was cutting the waste from the bottom piece. Andy was going to attempt but his saw was too small. I had to break out the big one. Sure makes you appreciate power tools. It doesn't require goggles or hearing protection though.
Front Top and Back and bottom cutout. Its starting to look like a 32'. I wasn't sure the glue up I made was going to work but so far so good.
The extra pieces glued at the bottom are how much the body curves in. I have alot of shaping to do.
The front windshield shaped. That wasn't too bad.
The back not too bad either.
The shaping on the side of the curve is going to be rather difficult. I started you can't really tell but I have taken about a 1/4" off the bottom. Still not sure how I am going to reference where I am at on this part.
Until next time...

So I worked on the car this evening. Shaping the side and top.
Here is the driver side after about 45 minutes of shaping with a hand file.
The passenger side untouched.
The way it is suppose to look
And how much I have removed from the bottom and still have more to go. The belt on my OSS is completely wore out so will try to pick one up tomorrow after work.

That's looking really good Bret. You're doing a top job.
What's going to happen to the pine prototype when you move on to the final version? A toy for the boys?... Steve

Just spent ages catching up on this thread.
Very nice Brett (as is the garage and shed).
Body does look good so your plan of attack was very good.

Did get anything done this weekend. Spent the day at my parents Lakehouse having an Easter hunt for the boys. They had alot of fun a got a ton of candy! I have to work tonight overnight to transition out of Easter seasonal into summer. So after I get home in the morning after a few hours of sleep maybe get some time on the 32'
