Work has begun
on artme's version of the Wheelin/Sue/Fletty carpark.
All to be made from recycled bits and pieces or off cuts from some reno work.
Fired the lathe up today for the first time in about 3 yrs!
Will see if I can post some pics tomorrow.

Hi Artme,
I'll send sketches of all the turned bits through the day and the floor plans tonight. I should have the elevator layout and assembly done by tonight as well. I don't think I can attach to PM's so it wall have to be via normal thread or email?

I have to say I have no idea what's being attempted here, but some very talented people above are all excited to see it so I'm definitely in for the ride!
Looking forward to the first few pics

Geoff, the masters have done their bit and now the apprentice is about to launch into a similar project.
There will be differences ( I can't help myself ) but the thrust is in the same direction.
Just hope my version will meet the same high standard.

phew!
Sorry Artme, I've only just got home from work and things are a bit hectic. I'm not proud of these drawings but it was all I could do between the front door and dinner being cremated!
Firstly this is a quick pic of the original. It is by no means a polished design but the kids who've received it so far just love it.

The 3 floors are from 12mm MDF and lovingly painted and lined by Sue. The following drawings should get you started and show you the relationship between the floors by lining up the 6 mounting holes.

I'll sketch the lift mechanism after dinner (dessert is out of the question anyway because I was so late!)

Artme as I drilled the holes these were for dowel plugs, they have to be long enough to go through the MDF and allow 15mm either side of the MDF and into the columns. Holes have to be drilled in the ends of the columns to allow dowels to join the ones above each end is drilled. We used large dowels (broom handles) which were/are 19mm to 25mm dia x 5" long. Sorry for mix systems but its how I remembered it.
My other thought was to turn the columns with the smaller dia which would go through the MDF and into the above column.
The top floor need only be 12mm long as does the lower end of the bottom column.

The lift mechanism is pretty basic but, as it is all too light to rely on gravity, the lift has to be driven both up and down ... and hence the lower pulley. The spring is a standard Bunnings item and fitting it can be a little tricky but I found that the appropriate 'magic words' worked wonders. 2mm venetian blind string also had the right strength and roughness to 'bite' into the pulleys but, if not, a bit of rubber wrapped and glued around the pulley inner diameter usually works. the following pic gives a few details....

... and hopefully the sketches give you enough to fill in the hidden bits....

I'm not sure about the height of the lift column so please make it a little long and cut down to size just in case. If I think of anything elase I'll send it through but please also ask if needed.
