Small Block Chevy 1/10 Scale
Hello Guys,
Well there has been enough great models going on around here that I finally got my mojo back to start another project. A small block Chevy that will ultimately be going in my 32' Deuce Coupe when I get around to building. I figure I could build the engine at least and see where things go from there. I have so many projects going on right now I don't have time for a big project so maybe this will fit the bill.
Started out with these dimension photos and alot of photos from google and various forums. My goal for this is to look like this engine here with finned valve covers and the Strombergs.
Here are the scale drawings
So I started out with the block. Just cutout the drawing and taped it on. I made all the angle cuts on my bandsaw. Had a long piece of stock. I think I can make 3 engines from it.
I attempted to even drill out the cylinder bores even though you won't see them. But I scraped that idea.
Heres the stock for the cylinder heads
Oil Pan You may be wondering why it is made of Maple. Simple it is Chrome. No true hot rodder would go without a chrome oil pan.

Rear part of engine where bellhousing bolts to.
Casting detail for ends of cylinder heads
I hope to add as much detail as possible including bolts, hoses, and wires. I'm not sure yet if it going to be all wood. There are some parts that will just be insane to make that would be much easier to make with brass. Specifically all the bolts and the scoops for the Strombergs.

Thanks Geoff. But you have to show yours for sure. You and Greg with his race car have given me the motivation to start another scale model project after 7 months of bring lazy.

Thanks Crowie.
Got a few more parts made today.
Valve covers. Made them out of 3 pieces each.
Making these what pretty easy as I have the real thing.
I made a piece to go n the top.
Next up was the timing cover. Its made from 2 parts.
I made this part for the front because the block is not flat on the front due to the cylinder banks being offset. So I made this piece to give the front of the block the right look.

I started to detail the heads. But this one will be scrapped as the wholes are all out of whack. Going to have to figure out a more accurate way to drill them but you get the idea.

Thank you Crowie. Not sure about that.
Thanks Steve. No I had planned on starting some kind of scale project during my vacation just wasn't sure what.
Thanks John. I'll have to check into that.
Here's what I did today.
Finally made a jig to use for drilling the bolt holes on the heads accurately
Here it is clamped onto the head blank along with one of the mucked heads flipped the other direction to make it stable while drilling.
Bam! Much more accurate.
Head bolts installed
Finishing the details. Still need to make the exhaust flanges but waiting on a new tool I ordered to get here to make them.
I got side tracked. But it was for the greater good. I though my engine deserved better than sitting on a piece of scrap.
Its not finished yet just had to mock it up.

more beauty shots.
I had alot of fun making the engine stand. Maybe I will make a roll around tool box to go with it and a drain pan.
