Caterpillar Mining Truck is Finished.
I put the final touch's to the truck today. I have a done rework on the front railing. The plan called for 1/8" dowel for the upright's & the vertical rail's but that was never going to work for me. I used 6mm dowel for the top & I think it look's ok. The timber's used were Silver Beech for the tipping body & the main cab area. Black Walnut for the tyre's, Silver Ash for the rim's & Red Cedar for trim on the tipping body.
The truck was finished with 2 coat's of Estapol Satin. It was a good pattern to build.

That was a magnificent effort Jim a real piece of model building art.
Jim would you mind telling me what you used to blacken the tyres with please.
I experimented with some shoe blackener it was a solvent base liquid and when I put a coating of white shellac which is mixed with mentholated spirits the shoe blackener run maybe I should have used Estapol instead of the shellac.
I know nothing about painting or staining or oiling.
I think it’s about time I started to ask some questions and maybe do a bit reading or searching on the net
Some people have their own techniques they have developed…. if this is the case I would understand this and would be quite comfortable with you not wanting to discuss in this arena. I am looking forward to seeing more of your model work.

Another great build Jim. I can't see any flaws in this truck. The joints, the wood grain, and finish are perfect. I also like the nice cabinet in the background of the second to last pic. So what are you going to build next?

Next Model
Thank's to everyone for your kind word's about the truck. To be judged by your peer's is the ultimate complement, thank you. As many have asked the next model will be one of T/J's latest pattern's. It is an American Military vehicle called the MRAP Cougar. It is larger than the Hummer, & the pattern is much more detailed than earlier T/J pattern's. It should be a challenge to build. I have a date with a surgeon for a minor shoulder operation on the 17/9. Possibly out of the shed for six week's but I will be on line. Thank's & Regard's Jim.
