    Default caterpillar tractor

Earlier this year diamondt, Mel posted pic's of the 2 ton cat, with information supplied by Mel this is my go at it. To begin the wheels, the side assemblies, chain links and pins and the track plates. Hope the photos come out in that order. John.

Wow, the attention to detail is amazing. Are all those tiny links punched out? How do you machine such tiny pieces???

Kiwi, The links are 20mm c to c, machined out of Sassafras 9 x 6mm, docked to length 28 mm long, 4 mm holes drilled on the drill press, ends rounded on disc sander, set up a pivot pin to get neat round, sanded the finger nails a few times all the cuts were done on the bandsaw with guides and stops, to keep the fingers well away I used a bradawl with a nice sharp point to hold and push the links. Only made 120 of them. John.

    G'Day John,
This build should be a treat with both yourself & Mel being top shelf model builders.
The parts thus far look very precise; thanks for the photos & notes.
    Cheers, crowie

This is fantastic John. Have to appreciate the number of all the track pieces you made. One can only go crazy making so many of the same piece. Can't wait to see it finished.
