    Default The Excavator

It was trying to rain here today so that got me some shed time. First pic is excavator body cut shape, it's difficult to see but three side's chamfered at 5 deg. Next is the excavator platform shown upside down with two fender's & support's, also the counterweight at the rear. Track's mounted to the suspension & the last is where the bit's will all go eventually.

My feathered neighbour dropped by to see what all the noise was about. I finished the counterweight with the "tail light's" & the towing slot. Built & fitted the the radiator grill & also the engine cover with the hole for the exhaust stack. Last pic is the start of the cab, window's yet to be cut, cross piece's in the front & light's in the roof. All that's for another day.

Not much shed time today, I was taken by shmbo to an xmas get together with the neighbour's.
I cut & shaped the operator's seat in black walnut, it should darken up with a coat of polyurethane.
We also done a bit on the cab, it still need's the kerf's cut for the door & a general tidy up.

Today's we finished the cab, fitted a door hinge & a knob, of sort's. We also cut the main & secondary boom, and the control lever's & the pedal's. Next job is the 4 ram's & the bucket, it could now get interesting ?

would like to see how your ram to the bucket turns out.
i either read the measurements wrong or they might be wrong.
when it put mine together it hardly moved had to shorten the cylinder to get it so it looked right.
good luck looks great so far.

Today's effort included forgetting the woodworker's first & most importent unwritten rule, measure twice & cut once.
I had a blonde moment with the smaller boom & had to cut it out again, lucky I had an offcut the right thickness.
First pic the four ram's, still to be tidied up, the next the boom's with the ram bracket's & light's attached.
