    Nice lathe work Derek. What size drill are you using ?

    Does your lathe have a lubricant pump system. I just have to brush lubricant and coolant on by hand. Nice looking lathe

    Thank you Keith can't remember the exact size drill but it was 1 or 2 sizes under 3/4" as that was the final sized hole needed. Like you I either spray or brush on lubricant in this case WD40 as it is Ali.

    I did buy a larger lathe than I thought I would need for the things I want to make. as well as the milling machine at least that covers any work I will ever need to do. But I am sure there will be a job that will not fit.

    Just a reminder of the lathe and mill. The mill has been moved further to the left to allow easier access to the gear change end of the lathe, this photo was when I first installed them in the new workshop

    That was 1 1/2 years ago now a little more in there and some oil splashes later it looks like this now. I try to keep it tidy and clean after every session. The part in the mill is the hopper for the farm boy I will show progress later today.

    The water hopper section started. I at first thought of hollowing the water section on the mill but not satisfied with how it was working so spent some time setting up what I had started in the lathe. Much happier with how the finish is on each pass of the cutter, still a little more to take out as well as a small step to fit the top which I made the other day.

    My woodworking is the other end I cover these up when woodworking at the moment that end is also tidy,

    The top is now machined but I can not fir the top cap in place yet as if I did it will be hard to remove for when I machine the cylinder through hole. The cap is 0.002" over size and will be put in by heating the cylinder block/water hopper

    this shows the water hopper with a lip for the top to fit into.

    Over the last couple of days I managed to bore out for the cylinder liner as well as drill three holes to connect this part to the front base unit. The forth hole is for a oil passage with a recess for an O ring to seal it when they are bolted together

    Set up and drilling of the oil passage using a couple of angle plates to set it at 18deg. Once set on the mill spot drilled and then drilled through to join the one on the joint

    I needed to flip the part so I could countersink for some cap head bolts, after which reset the DRO to perform a 4 bolt pattern and lightly marked them ready for drilling and threading tomorrow. These are for the head fixing and as can be seen they are quite close to the other top bolt holes

    I should be able to continue the hopper assembly after the weekend once the new bolts arrive, in the meantime I turned the inlet and exhaust valves. If they appear slightly different it is not the photo as they are a little different just need to remember when I assemble the engine.

    The head is 3/8" across and the stem 1/8" length is 1.5 for the shorter one and 1.560 for the other. I had to turn the stem in three sections to avoid it deflecting when turning. They are stainless steel

    Eventually got back on the Farm Boy engine.

    The two ends are machined to reduce material either side of the hopper section and leave a round boss either end. Once this was done I placed it on the mill with the intention of just removing some of the material from the bottom curve before mounting it on the rotary table to clean up, but I found that I got rid of the waste with very little clean up needed so rather than set up the rotary table I went down the route of filing the curve and then sand to remove the file marks.

    Today saw a few more holes drilled which enabled me to mount the hopper unit for a dry fit as well as place the rear section. This was after trying to find a tap and matching die for the top hole where the oiler will attach, the mounting holes was not so bad as I had those all ready for that job

    As can be seen the hopper unit has all the corners rounded off and the funnel fitted.
