I am looking forward to your FC though .
I'm not sure how I'll be doing a lot of things yet either. I'll try to learn as I go.
To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm capable yet, but there's one way to find out.

Yonnee I drove a '63 red ragtop Vette. 327cid and Rochester mechanical port FI. 4-speed Muncie box. Had it blueprinted, about 11.25 : 1 comp. I'm 6'2" and that was, with out a doubt, the most comfortable ride.
With the 3.08 rear, it really could do 75 mph in first gear. 8,000km per clutch.

All things considered, I think the '65 was a far better looking car. These days, I need much more than a plastic car with no boot.

    Nice.

See, for me, a '63 convertible is just another Gen2 Vette. And really, the only differences from '63 through to '67 looks-wise, were minor cosmetics (fender and hood flutes). For me, it's gotta be the Gen2 Coupe, and the '63 specifically for the split window, which makes it all the more collectible, harder to find, and more expensive.

And if I were ever in a position where I could obtain one, it would be just a weekend toy.

Yonnee, If you are serious about the Corvette there is a 1/12 scale kit made by Monogram. It is a 67 with a big block 427 but as you say they were all very similar. You could get it to scale your project. They are available on ebay all the time. I have one I bought when I was a kid. I have never started it other than glueing the engine halfs together.

    No worries Bret.
This thread has already achieved it's purpose, thanks to you. (And I like Corvettes too.)

I ordered the body kit this morning. Also found a little bonus on the same site - a full set of FC Holden decals.: -

Total cost for body kit and decals w/ GST and deliv was $51.80. A bit steep just to copy once, but after copying I could always sell the resin body on eBay to recoup some of the cost.

Or you could build the model.

Don't listen to me look what I have in the closet.

I have plenty to keep me busy when I retire.

I did the same as you and just ordered this 1/12 Scale 57' Chevy so I can use the engine to scale for the 32' Ford Hot Rod I want to build from scratch. It was $54 shipped off of ebay. Its vintage 1988 so the cost wasn't bad. I had one was I kid that I built up real nice but gave it away to a girlfriend.

What a collection. You will be busy when you retire, and right up until then by the look of it.

To build the model I really should have bought the full kit rather than just the body kit. I thought about it, but can't justify spending that much. (I can't really justify spending as much as I did either, though.)

Edit: The '57 Chev looks pretty good. Will make a great build.

    Nice Bret, thanks.
Freight to Oz might be a killer though...

And until you posted, I'd forgotten about a little present my darling wife arranged when she threw me a surprise 18th. She got all my friends to pitch in for the 1/8th Corvette model that Monogram did...

    This one's a '65 Coupe.

And judging by your collection, I'm guessing you're a GM man too...

I found the ideal place today for pics of all the bits of an FC disassembled and in various states of assembly, along with dimensions for any body part that I need - I joined the discussion forums of the FE-FC Holden Car Club of NSW.

I've spent the last hour or so collecting pics of everything I need, inside and out, from following a re-build.
If I need dimensions of any parts, I only have to ask. Great stuff.

There's a 'Little Cars' section for models, too, but no wooden ones in there (yet).

If anyone else is thinking of building a model from scratch, don't forget the car clubs. A fantastic resource.

I've also found good models for an FC ute and an FC station wagon. I might end up making the whole set, over time. (A lot of time.)

Ha. Yeah, without this one I'd still be playing with balsa.

I went berserk late last night downloading heaps more pics of the inner workings of an FC.
(So many that I had to put my PC on a stronger table to hold the weight.)

Also learned some more relevant facts. For instance, two-tone FCs came out in 3 configurations, but only one was used in May 1958. The best, luckily for me. It has the largest coverage of the second colour, (on some later ones either the roof or the boot lid were in the first colour instead of the second), and is well suited to two timbers.

Don't like the red/white combo, but this is the colour layout.: -
    Attachment 220691

I've got the rough plan worked out for the bottom half, too - what to include, what not to include and how to sub-divide the sections for each wooden 'part'. Just waiting for the resin model to get exact dimensions. (Although I've paid by PayPal, they haven't even processed my order yet, according to their site. Hope they get a move on. I'm impatient.)

    And.....

I made a great blunder when I ordered the decals.

Completely forgot that the decals are for a 1:25 model whereas mine will be 1:12. Another is in order.

    Not a complete loss, though.
_fly_ pointed out the other day that decal paper can be got for printers, so I can scan the decals, scale up, (probably do some touching up), then print my own at 1:12. The decal paper is a bit pricey, but I'm sure I'll use it a lot in the future.
I don't have a working colour printer here, only a couple of black laser printers, but I'll print elsewhere.
