Hi track Dozer
Hello all, I have just started to make A Toys & Joys plan Hi Track Dozer .
I have made a few tracked models in the past and have found making the tracks time consuming with a lot of broken ones.
I make a jig when ever I have to make more than one of something . And made a jig to drill the pin holes .mounted a wood jig in a drill vise with a small
air cramp to hold the track plates . it works ok with about 80 to make .
The next step I have made a jig to hold the track plate and feed it into a 4mm router bit to cut the slots in it ,and then to cut the other side with the band saw .
I will try to post a few photos ,
Regards Rod .IMG_0826.jpg

Hi HTL ,I only made the jig after seeing one elsewhere it works ok. But my drilling wasted a few , the small bit moved in the timber I used which was emu apple a local hard wood , and the result was a lot of holes that do not line up ,I may re drill and see how i go.
You are well ahead of me what timber are you using ?

I built mine 6 months or so ago.
And yes it pays to make extra track parts, way more than needed.
With my first set a tracks I had trouble with the tracks not lining up when the tooth picks were added but by drilling one set a holes just a 1/32 bigger it gave them the clearance needed to move just right.
Here's my blog of the build may give you some ideas. An Index Of My Model making Blogs on Lumber Jocks.

Hi All, another up date , I make the cab windows by making a template and rout the opening using a flush cut router.I do this ,to get nice round corners and also I have not had great success using a saw to cut them .I will put up a photo .
I changed the motor block too cut the slope out and put a V12 like the real one;s .
Cheers Rod ( excuse the messy bench in photos )
