With much input from Handyjack & photo's from Pete & Keith I have scrapped the stack. Today I made the contrasting insert's for the boiler, these will be turned down to sit just proud of the boiler. Then a little jig for the 7 grab handle's the plan requires, they are 3/32" dowel & a PITA to work with. They look ordinary now but when they are dry, sanded & painted with acrylic black craft paint they will look the part. Last pic is a pile of locomotive part's waiting to be assembled which hopefully will be soon.Cheer's Jim.

Today I had a new stack turned as the original one was crap. What are friend's for if they can't do you a favour occasionally. I cut the waste end's off the boiler & drilled the rest of the relevant hole's. Also removed the excess timber from the band's around the boiler. Now, I think, come's the assembly. Regard's Jim.

    Thumbs up

    Looking good.
Not much different to if you were working on one 12":1', just a lot lighter.

The "sleeper's have been glued to the backing that will be the support base for the loco, the rail's are just sitting in situ. I may have to make them the colour of rail's before they are fixed. I found a bucket of crusher dust in my other shed left over from a paving job that will be excellent for the "gravel" between the rail's, that will hide the pine & hopefully make it little more realistic. Last two pics are the rail's for the boiler. The rail's are not glued yet & still need a little fine tuning. Cheer's Jim.

    Hi Jim,

When I was putting down ballast between the sleepers on my HO layout, I used 30% PVA glue and 70% water mixed in a spray dispenser. I laid the ballast (gravel) and smoothed it out with large artists brush. I then sprayed the track and ballast with the glue/ water mix until saturated. It took about a day to dry but came up great with it looking like real ballast. Are you going to secure your ballast in a similar way ?

Your train is looking great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Regards

    Keith

12":1' or for the metricated 1000mm:1metre that is full size.

Your collection of parts is much the same as those on full size loco, but much lighter in weight.

Keith, you are one step ahead of me here, I haven't even considered the adhesive as yet, I only just found the crusher dust but I will certainly keep it mind. I will have to use something to keep it together. Thank you. Jim

Not a lot to show today, I painted the rails & made up a border around the base to hold the ballast in, also I tapered the base from the "sleepers" down. From what I have seen the track is always higher than the surrounding area. Last two pics, on my favourite drop sheet are various bit's with the first coat of poly. Regard's Jim
