This is the set up I have been preparing as well as a connecting rod having been machined still in place

    DSCF2527.jpg

This is the first stage as can be seen two holes drilled and one end rounded. Still needs a taper milling from the rounded section up to a square section where the large hole is and also machining the two sides to thin the part.

This requires two of these I did have some problems mounting the piece on the rotary table but beat it into submission in the end. The next one will be easier as will the 4 coupling rods

Derek, Looks like the prep work and jig is more time consuming than the part; BUT repeatable accuracy for sure. Well done sir. Cheers Peter

    Thank you Keith and Peter.

Today has been a bits and pieces day no work on the Loco or finishing the bowl I need to make as the garden needs some weeding and the bandsaw is in desperate need of a new blade(Now done as I always keep spares), also set up one of the three grinders as a dedicated drill sharpening station which I am working on at the moment just came in for a coffee.

Well one of the two connecting rods made just the bushing to sort out and the oiling cup.

    DSCF2545.jpg

I decided to make these even though they will not be needed until the cylinders and other bits are done but it gave me the chance to to work out order of machining as the coupling rods which I will use the same techniques on are a little more involved so I used this as a little practice. So once these are made I will start on the coupling rods

Sorry Keith missed your post thank you.

Anyway finished the connecting rods with all the bronze bearings and the brass oiler which is only 5/32" diameter.

I also managed to quarter the wheels and fit them to the frame I now have a rolling chassis just a few things to make before starting on the cylinder assemblies

A little slow on the build had to re-quarter the wheels when trying to fit the coupling rods which I am working on and then managed to damage one of the rods(down to me) so waiting for some more material and tools to continue. I have started to machine other pieces but nothing really to show.

Not a lot to show at the moment but have now got back to roughly where I was before I messed up the coupling rod now to get and finish them all. A little warm here but not as hot as some of you guys get during your summers. Hot enough to make it uncomfortable in the workshop for long periods of time.

I did manage to make the slide valves out of gunmetal castings that is why the bottom of the pockets look a little rough but that is not something that will effect the running when complete the size of the pockets and outer surfaces are what matters.

Not updated lately been so engrossed in machining so a little time to catch up.

Machined the cylinder blocks so that i had some reference surfaces to work from as well as the steam chests

    DSCF2689.jpg

Steam chests finally machined just the drilling of fixing holes to the cylinder block as well as drill and threading for the packing gland

    DSCF2692 (2).jpgDSCF2694.jpg

I have finished the drilling for the packing gland but no photos.

Started to machine the cylinders to their correct size should have the second one done by this afternoon before remounting and boring the cylinder in the correct position to the valve face
