Spent the other day boring the cylinders quite pleased with the finish.

I also managed today to take the mounting flanges down to 1/8" and do a test fit to the frames a very light filing was needed to get them to fit comfortably with no slop I must get back to the coupling rods before I go to far

Things on the loco build have been a bit slow what with the excavator build and gardening preparing for our winter, digging up some of the dahlias for winter storage and dividing, picking some brussel sprouts and freezing them for the wife I hate the things.

Anyway I have managed some work on the cylinder end caps one end is pretty simple case of just turning to the correct size the other end has the gland nut and packing for the piston rod they still need a little work as they still need the gland milling to the correct size and the hole enlarged to be threaded for the gland nut.

I also managed to turn the two crosshead gudgeon pins which also needed a slot for a scewdriver to fit them. I did have to make one of them twice as they are fiddly to make they only have 1/2" diameter heads

More done on the Rob Roy spent time cleaning up the gland end cylinder cover and machined to final shape as well as drill and tap for the gland nut, followed this with making the two gland nuts all this while trying to redecorate the bathroom.

The milling cutter moved on one of them the damage looks worse in the picture. Took a little longer than I wanted as had to wait for the ME 3/8" X 32 taps and die for the hole and gland nut

Its a pain when work around the house gets priority over model making

WOW it has been ages since I posted any updates but I did make some Christmas presents and other things over the festive season as well as make a start on cleaning the greenhouse and some of the veg patch ready for this year. I thought it was about time I got back into the workshop to do some work on the loco as well as some work on a small working stationary engine.

I needed to make a spacer up for the steam chest as I managed to take a little too much off when machining the cylinder assembly. It is only a case of 1/16" thick piece which can be seen marked out the centre of each of these will need to be cut out so the hole that is drilled in there will be removed. They both also need cutting to length. that is a job for tomorrow

    marked out 2.JPG

While the mill was set up I set to on the round piece which will become the slide valves as this also need to be 1/16" taller so easier to remake that part completely As can be seen milling one side off the round just need to do the other side the lines are slightly over size as I am rough machining this to size before the final cuts to the correct size all I had was a 2" diameter bar of phosphor bronze bar.
I know it appears like I am jumping around a bit but I will get there in the end

The piece on the right in the picture on the right need machining to the bottom line so the centre piece is what is needed
