Thread: Stage Coach 1848

Hi Andrieke,Your coach is coming together nicely I havent seen a kit type coach or wagon built before I knew there were kits about but thought they were a bit expensive, I have only built them from scratch, so kook forward to see how yours turns out,keep the pics coming .

At the moment my beginners skills (this is only my second wooden model) and the lack of tools makes kits the best choice for me. When i see all these beautiful models on here scratch build it makes me want to do the same. But going on a bying spree and get all these tools without knowing how to use them wil just end up in disapointment. so i will slowly build my skill and add tools as i go along

You've done preety damn good for a beginner Adrieke!!!!.

I hope you're going to the Wood Show at Homebush today or tomorrow.
You'll see quite a few good suppliers to stock your tools and at show discounts.

thanks for the encouragement crowie and i wil keep going because working with wood is so much more fun then building plastic models which i used to do

i was tempted to go yeah. but i know i would be like a kid in a toystore and be tempted to buy al kinds of things and at the moment i am already over budget for my hobby. first i want to know what tools i actualy need and what you can do with them and how to do it. and hopefuly by next year i l be more ready and wil come to the show and buy the tools and start scratch building

i ripped the veneering on the inside out as it was not looking good . i shaped abit of wood to follow the inside curve so i can now clamp it down better. waiting for the second part to dry to see if its looking better now.

the pic is the top part it requires 2 difernt colors of wood to be alternated. each time you glue 2 strips on it and wait for them to dry before going on to the next ones

i finished both the seats inside and part of the drivers seat
the work on the roof is still ongoing

i have been wotking slowly but havent taken much pictures so i ll try and get an update soon

finaly finished veneering the inside walls. half way through planking the floor

i have also finished the hatbox and am close to finishing the leather suitcase

the wooden trunk is comming along nicely too (will get pics next time)

the top of the cabing is almost finished too . just have to add some 2x2 mm strips around it with 2 sides rounded off to get a nice finish and clena up some littl emistakes and chips then i can start to varnish it

Its slow.I havent been well for sometime.Did door hinges today.1st thing for months.
