finished reparing the veneering on the inside.

the instructions now say to veneer the front, bottom and back with 4 strips of 30 mm wide and to start front and then bottom then back
i wasnt comfortable wiht that aproach as it would mean that a small error in alignment of the strips could mean disaster at the end
instead i started in the middle of the bottom where the coach is the widest (120mm wide and exactly 4 strips) and penciled the lines the strips need to follow to keep stright

i then glued the whole bottom bit and used bits of scrap wood to press the veneer down wioth clamps. i also clamped them front and back to make sure the where aligned properly.

i leave it to dry till tomorrow night after work to finish it off.

i am really happy how it sits at the moment as i was really worried about spliting or breaking the veneer. stil need to be very carefull when handling it tomorrow

Doing a very good job on your model ,a method I have never tried,an would seem to me you would need alot of patience with all the little fidly bits and the double work of vaneering the the body,but its comimg along very good,

Thanks Eddie and yeah sometimes it requires more patience than i have lol

i had to touch up a few gaps in the veneering and its not all perfect but overall i am pleased. a bit more sainding and I can put a first coat of clear laquer on it.

lots more fiddly work wil be next to add al the door and window frames and add lots of detail. cant wait lol

finaly finished the cabin base . put the first coat of varnish on it
i also constructed the false bottom which i l veneer tomorrow
then the fun part of framing the doors and windows adn adding the details on the outside

thanks artme i am relatively pleased with the overall look of the cabin so far

i had veneered the bottom part but ripped it all off again. there need to be done some plankign around and they didnt fir properly. thes planks are where the springs wil be fixed so i though i better make it correct.

i reshaped and am now redoing the veneering and it looks a lot better now

i stil have a fair bit of the wide veneering left (need to check how much i still need of it) and am planning on redoing some of the outside walls of the cabin as there are a few gaps. since most of these walls wil be coverd by the driversuits and luggage rack at the back i cna get away with just cutting a few bits out and redoing.

will take some before and after pictures to show the improvement (i hope)

and finaly i have finished one of the wheels. its been a strugle and the result is far from perfect but passable . in the past i woudl have kept it at that mainly because of my impatience to get on with the model.

but now i am rethinking on how i will fdo the othere 3 and if possible redo this one the same way.

Hi Andrieke,you are doing a fantastic job on your coach ,and it has convinced mre never ever buold a wagon kit it looks to me to be a lot harder than a scratch model but keep up the good work .

I'm with you Eddie,I will stick to scratch building.A lot more searching for materials etc,but easier to build .It has me buttered on both sides why they make it so hard to build

thanks for the comments and yeah when i opened the kit and saw all the small bits and pieces i was like oops this is a bit out of my league

the wheels certainly have been a pain. i have now broken one of the parts. i am trying one more solution if that fails i will scratch build them

i have become more patient with the build and am more likely to redo parts when they dont look right instead of going "it l have to do"

the undercariage for instance has been a bit of a mess as you can see in the third picture (sorry its out of focus) so i have taken one of the beams of sanded of the paint filled the uneven gap and am now repaiting it. then i ll need to find the right way to make a striaght cut in the middle. if i can make it work i ll redo the whole undercariage

i am alos working on the window and door frames which is making it start to look like a real stagecoach. also varnished the bottom bit.

havent posted much lately but have steadily been working on her
window and door frames are now added on both sides and sanded down to only stick out 1 mm
i am also redoing most of the inside as i am now certain i have plenty of the veneering strips ( really hate them as they break and curl up makign it difficult to line up)
the sanding and clamping has damaged some of them and also there are a few gaps with the window frames
on the outside i ll need to redo soem too as there are plenty of gaps visible.
the front part is almost donw but the last bit is giving me a bit of headaches (try glying a 1.5 x 1.5 strip of wood against the edge of a strip that is only .6 mm thick) so need to rethink that
the doors are comming along nicely too although i have calculated i will run out of wood for them. i have some small pieces left over which i will use as they wil be coverd up with the inside bit of the door (see pics)
the middle bench is also going well the top bit is done and 1 of the 6 feet is also veneered

Hi Andrieke, I take my hat off to you for perceviering with the model you must have a lot more patience than me ,I am afraid I would of given it up a long while back,
but nether the less you are getting the model done by the book and that means a lot, Keep at it and more pic's when you can.You will find scratch building much better to do but it' s looking good .
