    Default wheel making jig

Ive been busy making a jig to drill out the corners of the areas of the wheel that get removed. After the drilling the scrollsaw will cut out from hole to hole leaving the eight spokes. The base is 19mm pine with sides that the wheel blank slides into, then the smaller piece with the angled parts is clamped to it, trapping the blank inside, a 1/4 of a turn on the screw at the back just engages the blank so it cant move, then the top slides onto the four little posts. The whole thing slides around on the drill press table so I can line up the drill to the holes. Preset the depth of the drill press so it doesnt dig into the base too much. I used a twist drill on the first attempt but I think I'll use a dowelling bit to do future ones as the twist drill did slide off a bit on the curved (domed, convex) surface of the blank. The results were ok but it will need a little tweek to get it spot on.
Also making handles for turning tools, varnishing shelf, oiling burls, helping neighbour with wardrobe makeovers, planting vegies, cleaning out shed, paving, new floor in boat, mowed the lawns testerday...and now Ive got a cold. Helping a mate lay concrete driveway tomorrow. Just not enough hours in the day
    cheers,billy

    Hello Billy,

Great jig very ingenious. You sure are a busy guy. I got tired just reading all the stuff you did. Come to think of it I am going to go out in the shop and get something done tonight. Thanks mate for the inspiration.

    Hi Aussie,
    hi y'all.
Just picked up 1000 pavers that need to be cleaned before laying but Im pretending they arent here yet. Going into the shed to turn some more wheel pieces, then Ill drill them all on the jig in one go before setting up the scrollsaw. may even wait and use the little saw at the mens shed. Mine vibrates like crazy, dont want to shatter the spokes! Got some 30mm tassie oak dowel, 20 @ 2'6'' so Ill make the spacers that go between the wheel halves from that too. Will try to get pics up as I go. cheers, billy

Come now Billy a weekend of work mates and BBQ should have that done maybe even during stand down times. Would keep them all fit.

So why does scroll saw shake rattle n roll ??? Not bolted down? something loose ? Tension knob not tight?
