Tool for tire treads
Hi Guys here's photos of the lathe tool I made to make the treads on my tires.
I originally made it for making pulleys for serpentine belts like you have on your cars.

Hi crowie when I made my first tires for the Low boy trailer I didn't have a lathe.
I had a small drill press and I mounted it in a vise horizontal and used it as a lathe.
You do what you have to to get the job done.
I now have a small lathe that will do the job.

That looks like a nice tool. Makes me think of other ways of doing a similar thing, as I don't have access to metal work machines like I used to.
I was thinking that a high tensile bolt cut through the centre line and welded to a handle would give a similar effect.
Always good to see home grown tools that others create through necessity.Dallas

Will you be able to get your wheels from here now that you know about them from your previous build?

Isn't that just a thread chaser?

Chief Tiff No it is not a thread chaser it does not have side relief to
aliow for the thread helix.
It was made for cutting the grooves in a serpentine style pulley for a speed reducer
on a weed wacker engine for a large scale model airplane.
But a thread chaser insert would work on tires also.

Interesting picture but it's way too small to make out any detail; any chance of a higher resolution one?
