I have cast a few blanks, but haven't tackled abalone yet..... Nay I enquire as to where you got the sheets?
Dai sensei (Neil) would certainly be a good start point to ask....I'd suggest sending him a private message"All the gear and no idea"

If that's the case then maybe I'll be hitting you up for some myself (didn't realise you were a supplier! - even better)
Pm me some details on price per sheet if you are selling as I'd love to have a go at making done blanks (though wouldn't offer my services as I haven't done them before)"All the gear and no idea"

Can I ask how flexible is it? Can it be rolled around a tube or does it need to be cut into strips?
Thanks
Pete

It is a very thin sheet of Ab shell 230x140 approx you can cut it to size for a pen tube and wrap it around in one piece then mould to make a blank. Min diam is just under 10mm. The coated sheets are rigid more for inlay work.

It’s a top secret process the shell layers are peeled then bonded. Other shell varieties also in the range. Also can get custom lazer cut to your patten shell say for fret board work up to A4 size in some of it

Mica was used in wood fire doors in the 50,s I wonder if that’s worth pursuing
