Air Bubbles

I am still attempting to master the clear casting using labels. I have overcome the delaminitating problem, I think, but still having problems with bubbles. Most are very tiny but visible (3 or 4 per cast) and the odd larger one. I am warming the resign before mixing with the hardener and pouring very slow. I them use the band saw table as a vibrating platform. I sometimes remove visible bubbles manually. The only thing that I haven't done is vibrate whilst pouring. I use a resin saver mold and Diggers resign. I would appreciate any suggestions that may assist me to resolve this frustrating problem.

Get a pressure pot, that should do the trick.

You can't use a lot of pressure with the Resinsaver moulds though, I find 20-25psi is the max before you push the resin in to the tubes.

Are you having problems with the bubbles within the resin, or on the labels?

If the labels, try brushing the resin in the label before putting them in the mold. If the resin, pressure is better but heating and vibrating should be ok, I can only suggest more heat and more vibration.

Fred that pressure works well for me and the molds that I use.

Add the hardener to the PR before warming up the resin and stir gently while it is warming up.
Warm up the mold before slowly pouring the warm PR.

Using anything to vibrate the warm PR will do nothing but cause very fine bubbles to be formed in the warm PR.

Thank you for your advice. I will consider a pressure pot if I am still unsessesful. I would be looking at one 'off the shelf'' in Australia. I don't have a lot of space in my shed and would be looking for a very small air compressor as well. Would one of those small ones that are used to pump up tyres be ok if I only need about 20-25 PSI.

Sorry Les, but I don't agree

Putting the catalyst in before heating can mean it goes off before it's warm. I heat the resin then add the catalyst. I vibrate after pouring as some bubbles form during the pouring motion, and also from reactions to the cast product, the vibration certainly helps. Adding the catalyst after heating also gives you that extra bit of time to get the bubbles out.
