Air Compressor size
Hi all, what do you think is the smallest size, litre and HP wise, air compressor that would be suitable for the average pressure pot like supercheap sell?
Price isn't an issue, just smaller the size the better but still being powerful enough not to be annoying!

I have no experience with resin casting under pressure but as there is no flow of air needed once the chamber gets to it's desired pressure of somewhere around 40-odd PSI, almost any small compressor would do the job. I have a baby Ozito "oil-less" air brush compressor that would probably do the job. It may take 5 minutes to fill the vessel and then, provided there are no air leaks, it's just going to sit there doing nothing. You may even be able to use bottled gas if there are no leaks in the system. Soda-Stream CO2 is a possibility but it's not cheap. It is, however, dry and definitely quiet. Even one of those 12 volt "4WD" air compressors would do the job in a few minutes, just fit the pot with a tubeless tyre fitting from the tyre service and plug the compressor onto the valve, no complicated fittings required.
Any air leaks will, I would imagine, be a problem.

Agree with Old Hilly, size is not an issue as you fill it once and that should be it. Best to have one that cuts out when system pressure (not pot pressure) is reached so it can be left turned on and if there is a slight air leak it will cut in again when the pressure in the receiver tank drops off. You will need one that has a regulator to set the outlet pressure otherwise it will just keep pressurising until the relief valve lets go on the pot.
This one sounds like it fits the bill. It says it has a pressure switch which I assume means it cuts out when it reaches pressure. A cheaper option would be this.Dallas

Provided there are no leaks in the system and you are one of these fit and healthy exercise-loving people you could actually just use a bicycle pump. It kind-of takes me back to my days shooting precision air rifles that needed close to 3,000PSI in their cylinders and the only way was to fill them with a thing that worked just like a bicycle pump but was a 3-stage system. Then I bought a SCUBA tank.
