Been busy casting
Decided to take a picture of the different types of WW casts I've been doing lately. These are just samples, I've cast around 4-12 of each so far (plus coffee bean blanks ). Been also casting a few pine cones too, but pictures of them will have to wait.
First off is the Red Mallee Burl cap cast in Two tone Blue/Purple, Purple (photo doesn't show colour quite right), Bright Blue and Candy Pink
Next, Conkerberry with Blood Red (dye), Bright Blue, Maroon and Gold
Then my burnt Budgeroo root with White Pearl, Bright Yellow, Copper and Bright Blue
Can't wait to turn a few of these, but I will have to wait until next month, too busy with other things at the moment

Nice castings... am interested to see how they look as pens too. You have probably already posted it but how are you set up to do these? Have some nice wormy woods that I would love to do this with myself.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Wow! I love the conkerberry & budgeroo ones.
Hopefully I'll get to see them in person at the BBQ, before they suddenly disappear...

Excellent work Neil as usual. Will look great on the finished pens.
Reality is no background music.

I've now got around 50 standard blanks and 25 sierra size ones in the box. I've also got around 30 coffee bean short ones, so I will be bringing some down for the BBQ to give away. John made some the other day and had no problems, likewise I turned 10 Sierras today and only had one blow-out on the drill press - the short ones are at risk because I have to drill all the way through the blank.
After seeing Amos's pens from cast pinecones, I also started casting some and some banksia pods this weekend, and they look like they will also be fantastic. I really need to try turning some before I get carried away casting them though, to make sure they "stick" and don't have any bubbles. I have an endless supply of pinecones and banksia pods though, so hopefully I can make them work.
The costs are mounting up, it may be great fun, but this casting caper isn't cheap when you use 1-2 litres of resin a week (plus pigments, timber, sandpaper, blades, power etc etc). I will need to start thinking about selling some eventually .Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Couldn't resist turning a few of these types, so I turned some short ones as Sierra blanks, now just have to wait for some more kits to put them in. The cheaper Sierras I have don't suit.
