Default New to casting pen blanks.... HELP!!!!

Hi, I havent been on here much lately, been doing a Kitchen Reno and for just about all of this year, Ive been laid up with a crook back, but soon that will be fixed and after some recovery time, I can get back to living.

Swambo has expressed an interest in turning Acrylic pens, and Cabatec have the blanks for about $4.50 but I was thinking of casting my own blanks.

From the research I have done, it seams there are a few different type of resins etc being used, but I thought I should start out with the Cheapest and or easiest until I at least know enough to decide which way I want to go. I have a large well ventilated area I work in as my shed is for storage only. No room to work in there, its full of machinery.

So, What do I need & where can I buy it in Adelaide?

    Thanks

    Steve

Ticky rather than go through everything may I suggest you read through the Casting forum here and you will find plenty of good info on what is required and what to do.

As far as resins are concerned the easiest to start with is polyester casting resin, available in smallish quantities from Bunnings as Diggers Casting Resin, they sell the catalyst as well. You also need pigments so perhaps it would b better if you visited Adelaide Mouding and Casting who sell everything you need.

Timberbits sell moulds (made from silicone rubber) but you can make your own from plastic cutting board material (HDPE).
