    Default Casting PR blanks

The bug has really bitten and I am looking to get in to casting my own PR blanks.

I want to get a pressure pot and have found some in various places, but all seem to come with hoses and spray gun.

Super Cheap Auto has one for $176, and there are 2 on Ebay, again with hoses and spray gun.

Are there places that sell the pressure pot only for a reasonable price, or is anyone looking to sell one of these?

I am also looking for a good source for PR casting resin.

Have some prickly pear cactus drying as I speak

Don't know too much about the pots, but for good resin go to www.barnes.com.au thats where I get mine from. They have all the dyes, pigments, catalyst and supplies as well. Let us know how you go with the pots, after casting in a mould, I think I am ready for a pressure pot to expand my experiments.

Fred you can get an excellent pressure pot from Harbour Freight Tools in America for around A$30.00 , freight was about $50.00 to get it here which is still a lot cheaper than anything I could find in Australia when I was looking for one. You need to be sure that whatever you end up buying is at least 10 Litres to give you enough room inside to lay you're moulds flat so that the air bubbles can escape easily. Let me know If you need their web address .
    Good luck

Thanks builderbob, if this pressure pot is the one you are referring to, then it has increased in price a bit since you bought it.

It is the pressure pot that all the guys on IAP seem to be using, it is 2.5 US gallons or 9.5 ltrs. If postage is $US56, then the landed cost is somewhere around the $A130, using Visa exchange rate and surcharge. They tend to sell on Ebay for around that price, including gun and hoses.

When my father died I scored his big old cast aluminium pressure pot and all his spray painting equipment. Unfortunately it cost me around $80 to transport it back from Melbourne, but I think I am still well ahead. I still use it as a pressure pot, one day I'll get around to adding a pump and use it as a vacuum pot that would be better for casting resins.

Thanks Linden, that must be a new brochure, only looked last week and it was still $176. Sounds like a good deal to me.

    Edit:

Have just picked one up, great deal, thanks for the heads up Linden.

What alterations will need to be done to this before it is able to be used as a resin presure pot ?

Is it quite complex as i know nothing about this equipment but would love to get a pot for myself.

I've been thinking about maybe, just maybe, thinking maybe about doing this.

Would anyone mind outlining the basics of how it works for a newb?

Are you pulling a vacuum or pressuring it up?

If you are pressuring it up what do you use for the pressure?

If you're vacuuming it down, what do you use for vacuum? Your standard automotive HAVC pump?

How would an old pressure cooker work? What are the max/min pressures were looking at?

Has anyone looked around at any old paint shops to see if they have any pressure painting pots they want to get rid of them? Pretty much basically no one uses them anymore, modern paint guns have rendered these old pressure pot systems pretty much obsolete. Who am I kidding, they are way past obsolete. I'm sure if they haven't tossed them already there would be some shops/painters who would be happy to get a few bucks for their old pots.
