    Default Casting Wattle

Having cast a fair amount of gumnuts in epoxy resin the other half has asked if I could cast some yellow wattyl flower in conjunction with some timber to make a bowl or platter. I can't see why not however I'm pondering if the flower will keep it's colour if cast?

    Brain trust?

I doubt it, unless you dry them first perhaps, but then yellow would not be as bright. Organic stuff is always a risk

the heat from the PR resin will kill any colour - try using a cold cast resin like

Easy Cast clear it sets at room temp and should keep the colour (not done this just heard it would work)

the only stuff I've done..... I placed the stem of the flower in plastacine and cast it.... then remove the plastacine and inject colour back in thru the stem

any chance of a few pictures - post are always better with pic.....Good or bad

I have cast both fresh wattle blossom and dried. From these experiences and can report that casting the fresh blossoms is a waste of time. Best results are achieved from pressing them. I got some paper towel and two flat pieces of wood and used some clamps to press the blossom. The paper towel helped to absorb the moisture. The pressing time was only overnight before I put it in epoxy resin. Three years later the colour remains.

You could try spray resin first then cast don't know if it will work.
