Default Compressor & pressure pot deal - does this sound like a bargain?

    Hey All,

Was in Supercheap Auto today, and grabbed their catalogue on the way out. They have a special on air equipment currently, and I was thinking of a compressor & pressure pot for casting. What they have is

    1. 2.5hp Compressor, 20m airhose, 5 piece coupling set for $136 - supposedly half price
    2. 10 Litre paint pressure pot, 3m hose $100, supposedly 40% off.

So that'd be $236 for the compressor & pot, and some extra hoses & bits, and I could get it with no extra postage involved. I've seen the pressur epots on Ebay for about $60 - $70, but there's usually $30 - $50 postage required. I haven't really looked for compressor bargains on Ebay.

What do you pressure experts think? Is this an appropriate setup and at great/reasonable/bad price?

    Thanks. Russell.

That is a good deal on the compressor.

I can not comment on their paint pot.
Buy the compressor then shop around for paint pots or guns before the catalog runs out.

Depending on what you are painting you may want want a better quality spray gun.

I suspect the pressure pot is for casting his own blanks

Yes, wasn't really planning on doing any painting with it.

Default As a matter of Interest ?

What are the merits of "pressure " as opposed to "vacuum" for casting purposes, or do the different materials need different approaches ?

From what I can figure, Vacuum is when you're casting things in resin mainly, as it sucks any air out that is in voids etc in the object embedded, although there is a problem as vacuum lowers boiling point, so you can boil your resin if you're not careful.

Pressure then compresses any air bubbles remaining into tiny bubbles that are not visible in the final set.

I have wondered though, of the final set cointains compressed air bubbles, they will be under pressure and if a thin wall exists just above one of these compressed bubbles, is there a chance it will expand and blow a hole in the thin resin wall? Never heard it mentioned, so probably not, but still something to ponder.

Well, took SWMBO to Supercheap today, and she says "Merry Christmas!" and we load up the goods. Go the stapler/nail gun combo as well, so I can put up the front fence & kids cubbie she's been *gently reminding* me about for months.

Now if only Santa will show up with a big bucket of Resin to use in it, that'd be good.

*runs off searching for the pressure pot mod instructions*
