I finally got time to come back around to some attempted casting. So far seems like my resin worked fine (measured catalyst with a small pipette).
I now have other issues in that the paper I had wrapped around tubes seems to have let go - I guess the resin killed the glue I used (contact aerosol with a little CA where I had problems getting it to stick), but one problem at a time!

you need to give a coat of CA over the whole thing before casting ... i do 2 coats
i also use labels ... they have the sticky stuff on them already

Will give it a try (hopefully over the weekend), thanks MIK. I realise now I'd actually heard that before, just forgot about it in the excitement of doing the casting!

With many thanks to all here who gave advice, I finished my first successful cast pen yesterday:
I think I've settled on a disposable syringe for measuring resin (when I want small quantities like 30ml for a pair of sierra blanks in a resin saver mould) and a cheap tiny pipette for measuring catalyst. And MBUMIK's tip of applying some CA before casting was vital.
Thanks all!
Danny
