Hot Box
Hey All
So I decided to knock up my own hot box after trying some casting with resin that was heated up to reduce bubbles and worked a treat. So got some melamine from work next to nothing and got my little helpers to help me knock it up most of them lost interest not long after except my youngest boy Seth never left my side he is just like me it's not funny. So now all that is left is some shelves and the light or heating source which will be a 50w ceramic heat globe which I use for my reptiles and a thermostat to control the so I can just switch on and walk away. Now I have looked at different things for shelves so I was thinking of so more melamine or mdf cut so that they are 350 by 360 and drilling some holes in the shelves to help the heat rise easier what do u think. I have only spent $11 so far on the box
The box is 900 high 400 deep and 360 wide
Thanks Ian

Hey Ian, I'm not exactly sure what you are using the hot box for. Is it to warm the resin up to reduce the bubbles? If so I just sit mine in jug in an el cheapo jewelery cleaner with the ultra-sonic thingy on for ten minutes or so and it is perfect.
Aldi had these on special last week for $14.99, they are also usually available on flea-bay.Regards Rumnut.

Heating the resin before pouring will work better, plus if heated, it goes off quicker and normally stays hot from the chemical reaction. The box will however help with what will be effectively a post cure box.
Great shots of the kids, reminds me of my kids when they were young. Give them a new toy and it will entertain for a few hours, give them a simple box and it will entertain them for daysNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Hey Ian,
you going to have the light in the bottom of the box?? The heat rises remember, I found that wire shelves out of fridges and stoves are the best, they are strong and easy to find (council cleanup)

Fridge it
Had an elderly neighbour (RIP) who did a lot of wood turning and to cure his bowls (instead of letting them sit in their shavings for weeks) he grabbed an old fridge and stuck a 40w incandesant bulb in an old desk lamp in the bottom and put his bowls in the fridge. Brought his cure/drying time down to days. The fridge works really well as it is insulated so it retains the heat.

Hey Ian, just reading your thread. You did a nice job with the box. I was thinking that a bit of thin glass insulation with the reflective aluminium on one side (used in roofs a lot) would hold the heat in and help push it through the box as well as make it fireproof. Be interesting to see the final product

Ian have you thought about a small fan (ex computer or similar) to help circulate the heated air?

Re: Hot Box
Hey Greg
Thanks mate good idea mate but with my experience in building reptile enclosure the melamine should hold the heat fine as this box does have any ventilation or glass on the front but I will keep ur idea in mind mate thanks for the input
Ian
Mate thats a top idea my take a trip to the tip on the weekend ;-)
