    Default Label casting

Hi. Did a quick search but must have missed the answer I was looking for. I have tried my first attempt at label casting. It appears to be turning out ok but the acrylic resin has soaked through the paper making it transulecent in places. What is the best thing to coat the paper with on the tube before casting?

you can use most any clear finish, but the MOST important part
is that finish must be fully cured before you get it into the resin.
Not dry to the touch, not just overnight.. fully cured. Otherwise
it can react with the chemicals in the resin and you'll get these
little teeny tiny shimmery air bubbles and pockets...

Some finishes can take up to a month to fully cure.. even though
they can be dry to the touch in minutes. But they can off-gas
    while in the resin.

Take it from someone who has dozens of blanks with little teeny tiny
    shimmery air bubbles and pockets..

Try Septones Clear Acrylic spray in a pressure pack can. Super Cheap Auto have it. I imagine Bunnings will too. Its a top coat. Just follow the instructions on the can regarding drying time. While I have never tried casting labels, the Septone works for sealing decals and then applying CA without damage to the decal.

Thanks for the advise, was very disappointed turning the first one as the tube has soaked through and then in places there seem to be a green oxidisation of the brass tube. Will try out the ideas come the new year.

I use vinyl paper from a supplier in Sydney. Have not had any problems. A pressure pot has solved all my air bubble problems as well. I use Diggers clear casting resin from Bunnings with their catalyst as well.
