Minimum materials for casting
I'd like to try my hand at casting but not sure whether it is really for me, what would be the minimum set-up that I would need for a one-off casting so that I don't spend much time/money in case I don't go further into it?

You can start very simply, and not spend much at all. I certainly didn‘t spend much initially.
This thread has some discussion on the topic.

I started on about $100.

I just realised I never really answered your question.
Nuplex/FGI has 1 litre poly resin for about $25, catalyst under $10
Bunnings sell Diggers clear resin 500ml about $25 inc catalyst (I think).
pigments, some use acrylic paints. never worked for me, maybe it was just cheap crap.
I bought resin pigments $10 to $15 at nuplex.
25 mm conduit, seal the ends well, and maybe something to help release end product.
or, slab cast in microwaveable takeway container.
Plastic jugs, cups, syringe, disposable pipettes and stirring sticks.
Most important, PPE.

If you want to try the Pearlex colours, you can just buy a couple of the small jars for a few dollars each..

I havent tried these people, I just googled and they came up along with a few others, a few of these little jars will make you a number of blanks and give you an idea if casting is for you.

043Turning sells them in the bigger size jars, as do plenty of others.
They can be sourced cheaper from the US also, if you want to go to the trouble and wait for them to arrive.Brad.

Barnes sell sample kits of pearlex. About 40 bucks for 16 small jars. I bought mine on a whim when in store. They have other have syringes, pipettes mixing gear too.
There are cheaper places on line and I often use them now but I like to touch and see on my early purchases.
