    Default Another Mold

Needed another mold to do some worthless wood blanks so i thought i would make a mold with a overflow/excess section on the top so extra resin can be put in if needed when doing the WW wood blanks. Very simple to make for those who are interested in making them. I am interested to hear what you think of the mold.

    Cheers Ian

    hi delbs
Thanks for your comments i am glad you like my molds but can i say firstly that i could not make a mold for you mainly because of the way i make mine and the act that they are very thick and do not work out cost effective for anyone to buy but you could certainly make them yourself or a reasonable price or you buy some through timberbits but i don't believe those molds to be cost effective and you can really only do one pen at a time which may seem ok but you will be dissapointed in the end. There are plenty of tutorials on the IAP forum or making molds but if i can help in any way feel free to contact me and I will see what i can do ?

    Cheers Ian

see here: Day 1 #2 Molds & Making

Apart from describing the different molds, Gawdelpus then actually makes one using silicon.

Okay I'm silly, ive been watching these vids and i got to the part when you mention where to buy the mold on the pen turners. Org so i went hunting but couldn't find it.

Perhaps I should press play and watch a little longer

Looks good Ian. Not sure about the extra overflow. I am still waiting for my silicone to arrive so I can make a couple more moulds. I have everything else ready.

You only need the extra overflow if you are casting worthless wood, seed pods etc under pressure. Without the extra resin, as the pressure forces the resin into holes etc and the pressure itself the top level will be too low in the final cast. If you are just casting pure resin blanks, you just add enough resin to the lower level (ie no extra).
