Thread: Pearl White Castings with Coolabah Root and mystery seeds

Not the best weather for casting, cool and wet, but I'm bored and trying hard to avoid the chores around the place

I had a small coolabah root offcut from some pepper grinders I made a while back that I'd kept as its surface shows signs of amazing grain. Decided it was time to slice and cast it up. As it is a relatively dark timber I decided to go for a Pear White Pearlex powder with a little bit of solid white pigment so it wasn't so transparent. I cast 2 x 3 blank molds and 2 individual molds with the left overs.

As usual I had plenty of left over resin, and I had some seeds from some sort of tree dried and ready for casting, as you do . I put them in a square silicon mold just for this purpose large enough for long tube pens. I have no idea what these seeds/nuts are, weird shaped things I picked up on my big trip, but I've forgotten where and from what tree . They have a dark outside but a lighter brown fibrous inside.

All of these have a relatively hard solid timber so I decided stabilising was not necessary. Gave them a quick coat of NCL to bring out the grain and seal them
