Default Polishing a block of resin

I have a rectangular block of fruit set in resin that I cast. I am not going to bother cutting it into blanks as I have had no success with them yet. So I thought I would polish up the block and make a pen stand out of it.

My question is - how do I go about polishing a rectangular block of resin - never done one before.

    Any assistance is appreciated.

I'd use a buffing wheel. They move a lot faster than hands and arms.

If you don't have a mandrel/lathe system for pens, maybe you could get hold of one that is fitted with an arbor to suit an electric drill. They are pretty cheap at car accessory outlet or Trade Tools - under $20 from memory. Trade Tools even sell a set that would probably work on a pen mandrel.

Not sure how rough your cast was, but basically you need to work through the sanding and polishing grits as for anything. If you have one of this sanding attachments like this: 3 Sanding Pad and some sanding discs like these: U-Beaut Polishes - SANDING DISKS plus you can also get some felt pads too that can be used to buff with EEE/polish etc. You can use the sanding pad in your lathe with some pin jaws, or just a drill.

Greg, let me try an idea I have been mulling over for the past couple of weeks out tomorrow and I may have a solution for you.
