Visit from Dorno
Ian cane a visiting today and he bought with him his chamber from Curtis, we tested it on Ian's vacuum pump and also on a reclaimed refrigeration compressor i got whilst in Brisbane before Christmas. Both worked very well with the vacuum pump getting just a tad more vacuum. We are very happy with the results, they are now in the oven.
Jake a local lad on school holidays also turned up and we made some blanks so he can make his first pen on the weekend.

Heard so much about these pumps good to see them in action.
Its nice when this sort of thing happens a very informal GtG just to blend ideas and its even better when things go right.
Love the colour of the blanks.
The Banksia nuts look good too.

great to see all set-up OK
I was supposed to send Dorno a photo wasn't I
What is it that was stabilized, looks like a resin blank in the photo?
Just remember to turn off valve to the chamber enabling air intake before turning pump off (ie never turn pump off whilst under full vacuum) as it can damage your pump.

Neil we did some Banksia nuts the ones in the foreground in first picture, spotted by Ray, some hackberry and some spalted timber Curtis sent from the US. Ian plans to do some of the rose wood you gave him soon.
Ian welcome anytime you are over east mate would be a good day.
The blanks have been in the oven and have come out quite well will have to impregnate the Banksia nuts soon

Don't forget, cast banksia first, then expose wood by sanding and then stabilize. Sometime if you stabilize first, the PR doesn't sick.
