    Default in search of 7" hand cast blanks in Australia

    Hi, I am new to turning and have an easy store selling acrylic hair sticks. I am having a lot of difficulty finding longer "pen" blanks of approx 7 inches here in Australia. All the commercial ones are only about 5 or 5 ½. I have bought a few meter blanks from timberbits but the colour choice is limited. Importing from the US is too costly to be viable.

    I would love to support creative casters here in Australia who can make unique blanks that can be turned into hair sticks.

    Here is an example of a finished stick, using commercial blanks, in action.

    Plenty of casters on these forums and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out. I'd be a bit worried about a plain PR only blank that long for a hair tie and would prefer a blended PR (ie normal + some flexible PR) or cast epoxy blank.

    For a start however, where are you, as it would be better to recommend someone near you.

    I have cast similar things in Epoxy and Polyester Resin (PR) with round moulds or square.

    Did you want the casting only or machined and finished as well.
