Theres nuts under me ute
Called into a local shopping centre today and for some unknown reason parked in an area around the back where I have never parked before. As I reversed out to leave there was something dragging under the front of the ute. On investigation I pulled out a dried out branch with about 30 mini pine nuts on it. I scouted around the immediate area to see if there were more around and I managed to score enough for maybe a dozen or so pen blanks. Needless to say I may be parking in some different spots in future

Coastal Sheoak pods to be exact
They make lovely pens when mixed with resins . Just make sure they are truely dry before you cast. Put them in an over or something at a low setting for a a few hours. Also best to double glue up when putting in the tubes, ie drill and soak with thin CA before redrilling and loading up with epoxy, to ensure the pods are stabilised and the tube is fully glued to all the components. When it is turned down to 1mm from final, soak all of blank in thin CA again, before finishing. Very important too is not to turn by scraping, use a tool that cuts, skew or gouge on high shear angle with fine cuts.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Rumnut,
As per Neils demo video, mix the pods with the resin for a while prior to then pouring them into the mould and then add the balance of the resin or another coloured resin. This helps get the pod and all the little nooks and crannies of the pod pre coated and assists getting the resin into all those spots when under pressure in your pot.
Cheers
Tony.
