Thread: acrylic pen finishes

Get yourself some acrylic finishing pads, brasso & a water based glass/plastic polish. Wet sand to 12000, brasso and then polish. Easy peasy

Supercheap Autos have a pastic polish that works a treat on CA and all resin blanks (after sanding to 12000)

Micromesh is an acrylic polishing set try the sandpaper man

I use sandpaper to 800 then micromesh through the whole set and then give it a go with Rustins Burnishing cream.

Gives a really nice shinny finish

Others have given you a couple of contacts, but I got mine from Carrolls

Err, no one seems to have asked, but you said half wood/half acrylic. I assume you don't mean you have wood cast within resin on the one tube, otherwise you wouldn't want to wet sand/brasso before putting the CA on.

Pretty obvious I guess, which most people have assumed, just wanting to make sure.

I've gone the cheap route and avoided plastic polishes so far. Mainly just MM to 12000, then brasso. Tried the cornflour polish once and didn't see any improvement, and have also used the polishing wheel on my dremel, with about the same result too. Brasso is quick, cheap & simple, but other more makers say you can get a better finish.

If you get one of the hobby microMesh kits they include the paper, polishing creams, cloths, instructions and other free goodies.

Addictive has Acrylic finishing pads, they are great.
As for half acrylic and half wood, I still not sure which way to go, wet micromesh all and wait for it to dry, then CA and finishing pads. Or, try sealing wood, then Wet sand and micromesh etc?? I tried last night on an expensive blank, result was mediocre. Amos

sorry ,i seem to have not explained myself better.6 pens will be wood,6 acrylic.will try a few different finishes & will post what works best for me ,when i,m done.thanks to all for the usual good advice you get on this forum.
