Thread: 2011 Australia Day pen swap
-
9th April 2011, 12:47 AM #241
John & Nick; I'm really not all that concerned. It's not as if I sent my swap and received nothing in return. Until I hear from Bernie, I'll just hold on to my swap.
What really concerns me is that nobody in Melbourne seems to know him. Larry Dubia posted in another thread asking for anyone in Melbourne if it was possible for them to be in touch with him. Is he in fine health, or in some kind of difficulty that we are not aware of? No replys in that thread that I'm aware of.
We are our brothers keeper, so to speak! It feels really great to sell a pen,
It feels even greater to give one to a friend!

Mack
If you do not here from your partner soon then I will cover the swap same goes for you Don.
I already have two excellent swaps but do not want anyone left out, this is a well regarded annual swap and we want to keep it that way.
From what I see the quality of this years swap is excellent with many people excelling themselves.
Thank you Nick and all other organisers
Nick if you have other plans to keep everyone covered please disregard this.

Tale of Events,
This year Ed Blysard and I were drawn as coconspititors in the draw guess what as I said lightning strikes. So I determined to do my best (whats new).
Made the pen that sings in the hand, using URL,s followed Eds interests, passions and hobbies, his work and play. Then elicited Amos,s skill to Laser cut the presentation box from the American site for the top of the box. While this was going on I completed a project at a cost of a few hundred dollars to enable me to engrave under the lid another
image. The design of the box made it necessary for me to engrave upside down with a granny tousle representation of an object Ed will recognise immediately associated with his daily work and extraordinary winter in Houston this year.
So far so laboriously good then crunch time after packing for a few hours three separate parcels carefully just under the dreaded 500 grams for 22.00 dollars each off
to the crowded post office (not able to preaddress, pack in reweigh, fill out Customs forms write forwarding addresses, my own particulars on the Registered Post envelopes) sharing the mini size bench with others I wrote Eds Addy as 501 instead of
5201 his street.
Off the separate parcels went Eds went into denial by USPS the first real bummer I have experienced, it was called unblessed deliverable. Not just that they denied to Ed it had arrived at all then ten to fifteen calls from me to Eds work phone and Australia Post et al. Finalled declared undeliverable sent back to me returned on this week resent that day total round this year postage 45.00.
EDs Pen etc to me pics posted by me some time ago, I unburdened to Ed and he knows somethings re his swap from me but I await his receipt this time sent to Eds work place with their phone number and mine etc, Heres hoping.
In defence of USPS so far never had a parcel lost for ever. Will post the arrival and comments from Ed in due course. This in response to does anyone have incomplete swaps out there.
Kind regards to all. Peter.Nil Desperandum

I sent my package out two weeks ago to my swap partner, and got notification from the postoffice that his package to me has arrived. I get to wait till it's open Monday. Sam I hope you like it.

G'Day Mates
I want to thank Don Nicholes, mykpenturner, blackbuttewa, ldubia, and coffinup for the awesome pens and blanks. I have been truly blessed by these mates for their time and selection of timbers. They have all recieved their packages and it only cost $287.54 not bad for 5 boxs. I am looking foward to next year, however, why wait? I will swap a pen to anyone who wants to do so.
Last thank you to all the other fine quality crafters this year. So many nice pens on the Photo page.
Cheers

I Just wanted to let the organisers know that I have finally completed my pen and have it in the mail for Bear.
As I explained earlier I am very embarrased at not completing my pen for the swap (my reasons in earlier thread) because I have been one of the first to condem others in the past.
I have not recieved my pen from bear yet ( I am glad for this because of my slackness i did not want him to have sent his pen and be waiting for mine) So because of this I have only recently given him my address.
But all done now and have sent my pen and I will post photo of It once he recieves it.
Cheers Ian

Ok,
Got mine from Peter (Penpal) today,
Pen is Hairy Oak Birds Eye, cross cut.
Note the center band, Peter said it is called Australian Fauna.
David Timberbits design, also has a Flora design.
Of special note, the box has the Logo of my Dodge Challenger forum laser engraved on it, and the inside has a railroad Rotary Snow Plow on that side, a nice accent as I am a railroader by profession.
Box and engraving by another forum member, Amos, (Woodenink).
Wife has already tried to con me out of them both, but this one gets locked up in my display case, front and center.
Outstanding all the way around.
I plan on posting a photo of the pen and the box on the Challenger forum also, just to rub their noses in it..."Look what I got"...
Thanks again to Peter, great to swap with him again."That's why I love my computer,,,,,,,, my friends live in it."
