Received my first pen today, from member BDar. Not sure of the kit style, I think it is ‘graduate’ or ‘professor’. The wood is Turkish walnut and it is a truly beautifully figured wood. Thanks for the blank too.

Started a pennstate Nouveau Art Deco today with the snakewood. Drilling generated a lot of heat in the wood and was retained for quite a while. Found it lovely to turn chose to use a 2” curve straight edge carbide tool.
Used u beaut Aussie oil to finish, really brought the colours out.

    Hey folks -
Very lucky camper on the end of this pen swap!!

Řistein from Norway was my partner and he has certainly made a beautiful writing implements. The timber is teak from a historical ship - the SS Statsraad Lehmkuhl of Bergen (1918). Not only was there history in the timber itself but also in how it was obtained. This was all documented for me along with a couple of pages on the ship itself!!
Housing the pen is a box made with some of the same teak and also cherry. Accompanying the beautiful pen was a swag of blanks - all of which are new to me.

Thanks to the organisers of this swap, it really is a bunch of fun each year and I always look forward to signing up.

Thanks again Řistein, I am very grateful

    Cheers all
    Gab

That is quite a pack you have, especially the Bog Oak very very old wood. I’ve just purchased a few pieces from the Ukraine that are estimated at upto 5000 years old. Did your benefactor give any indication of age of his? Will be interested to hear about your drilling and turning experience with it.

    He mentioned between 3500 to 5000 y.o.
He also said that it won't shave but rather just turn to dust....
Certainly going to enjoy creating with them

    Evening Everyone,

Pleasant surprise in the mail this week with my first pen swap turning up with a collection of blanks attached.IMG_0257.jpgThank you David for a lovely pen and your generosity. Thank you also for identifying the blanks as I am a wood species beginner. Hoping to return the favour soon but a house move is delaying the process. Hang in there it will happen, besides you Know where I live. Oh that's right I won't be there in 5 weeks time. Email and postal will remain the same so I can't hide.
To Pjwri2, I pm'd you my details back on the 28th January and still to receive a response. Just a gentle tap on the shoulder. Hopefully hear from you soon.
    Cheers,
    Mac

    Default Pen swap

Received my Swap from Terry. A nice collection of blanks some of Terry’s own casting. The pen is a kit new to me, called Spiritual purchased from the manufacturer in China, dressed in Camphor.
As ever great fun and look forward to doing it again next year.
I am having trouble attaching a picture, will keep trying but wanted to acknowledge the Swap.
