Don't forget to turn it, so that all of it gets equal exposure. Otherwise it will end up striped, and the zebra theme was last month.

    Now there's an idea!

I wonder how a pen'd come up if you turned it simply then covered it in a stencil, cut away a small pattern and exposed it for a day or two... then cut away a bit more stencil and exposed it again. And so on.

Would the variations in colour stay crisply defined, or would it all start blurring together? Hmmm... this bears looking into!

I'm too sick to work today, so doing some recuperation in the shed

Have resawn each of the blanks on the bandsaw, run each over my new planer to square up the sides, and ensure an even thickness, and they are now laminated in the vice to dry.

Once dry, I have to resaw them again, the true up the blanks, then the real tricky bit comes to produce the diamonds.

My main problem - I have no faith that my ability to turn, to be able to deal with the final segmented blank

Ok, so this is where I got up to.

You're doing it all wrong!! What you need to do, is to leave the blank about 1/2 a brass tube longer than normal. Then you glue an extra tube in the end. You have 1/2 the brass tubing sticking out, right. This you grip in your Triton cordless drill. You now turn the drill on, and (very) carefully bring the rotating blank onto the rotating blade of the Triton wc 2000. For extra good finishes, smooth as a baby's ####, you make sure that you've got the drill rotating in the opposite direction to the saw blade. For final finish, use the Triton ROS with 80 grit. You'll end up with a really sweet pen, that looks quite distinctive (like nothing on earth perhaps), and you'll be really proud of it. Then, the ultimate step, get it professionally photographed. Mate!!!! It's an absolute winner, wish I had all the Triton gear.
