mens shed toy car
Hello All,
In February last year Underfoot posted photo's of his Toy Car masterpiece and commented as follows -
"I was asked recently by a local mens shed to design some wooden toys they could make and sell.
this is no.1
stack laminated and shaped from a single 19mm red cedar board
I designed it to be very simple, strong, cheap and easy to make.
the toy was designed so that it (hopefully) wouldn't end up at the tip when the kids were done with it. "
It has taken forever but here is my attempt to copy the masters' work!
The timber is 19mm thick Western Red Cedar finished with many thin coats of Shellac, brushed on. It is 400mm long and the overhead picture should help in scaling it if anyone wanted to make a copy.
Version 2 will have better mudguard profiles so that the running board is easier to finish, be made of Red Cedar and may even have a steering wheel.
Regards

Great job Hammo. I've yet to attempt one of those cars but it's on the list.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Mens Shed Toy Car
Here are some photo's of the sections I used. They may be of some use if you can somehow copy the outline onto a sheet of A3. The squares are 1cm and the bottom of the section is aligned with the bottom of the grid. The car has 1 Centre Section, 2 middle sections, 2 outer sections and 2 mudguards. Sorry that the sections are a little "used" but they were a trial and I was a bit rough with them!
As I said originally, the outlines are only a start, the real fun comes in the shaping.... and dealing with the all of the sawdust!!
