You named this thread "standards". They come in many forms, including behaviour, respect, etc

Local mens shed here in Kalgoorlie is largely council funded. It exists in a fairly large and modern building owned by the council, located behind the library and senior citizens centre. There is a salaried supervisor on duty at all times whenever the shed is open who is supposed to oversee who uses machinery etc and ensure that they know what they are doing. The shed has a very good range of tools & machinery - much of it donated by local big business (mining companies). But there are still those few who use equipment who do not really know how to use & maintain it properly. For example, if you want to use one of their woodlathes (and they have a few of them), best to take your own freshly sharpened tools, as theirs will be blunt / chipped / damaged and there is only one bloke down there who occasionally sharpens them - they do not have any sort of sharpening "jig" - he is a skilled turner and sharpens by hand.

I haven't been there for a couple of years or so now. I ended up buying everything I need and setting my own shed up in my backyard and spend most of my days in there (when the weather is not like it is at the moment). Might get back there eventually, but it will not be because I need to use their tools / equipment.

Maybe it would have been prudent of you to offer to purchase new blades for the thicknesser that you used.
They are not overly expensive
At times it's o.k to give more than we receive!
And then you could return to said Shed and use it (thicknesser) without fear or favour

These Sheds are set up to give lonely and aged men company much needed and a sense of belonging
Hacking on them serves no useful purpose imo
