Ok got the vice cleanup (all the glue removed) and a coat of paint applied.
A few before images and a few after. The ones before are a bit dark but the colour is almost a match.

Ray,
It was the quickest resto I've ever done.
Brush the sawdust off.
Pull it apart.
Put in backyard and hose and scrub...leave in sun to dry.
Attack the acme thread with a wire brush to remove the glue and gunk. Give it a wax to stop the rust.
Give the parts to be painted a wipe over with 'wax & grease' remover...then paint.
easy.......
Let me know which weekend scones are available and I think you may get more starters than you can poke a stick at.....

LOL Steve welcome anytime regardless.... LOML's scones well these days there a special treat she did make some mini bite size ones a few weeks ago.
Cakes made for Tuesday though.
Vice well not gonna happen till I finish a few other projects mines not as bad paint or rust wise think Pat cleaned it up a bit first and have to alter bench to fit it.

I was told it was Indian Red.
I've got a few to clean up and lots of clamps too.
Best wishes
Steve

Steve,
Thanks for that. I'll keep that one in mind as my dawn metalworking vice is another colour alltogether. (years of abuse)
Using the rear of the vice as an indicator 'Indian Red' didn't even come into the mix. Ford 'Regency' was about the closest match without stuffing around too much.
The front face was an entirely different colour to everything else. (Faded I think ..plus grime and other stuff)

Arthur,
Going nowhere fast. Got to flatten the top as it's got a twist in it of about 5mm on the diagonal.
Just don't know how to set it up as the top is 2m x .9m x 85mm thick = big and heavy
Have a planer bit for the router so I'll look at building a sled. With Xmas now on us time in the shed is at a premium.
But when I start I'll post some more pics. Hopefully the kids will be helping.

You read my mind just yesterday I was wondering has Steve gone to sleep or what.
I reckon just put a 2mm sliver under the lower side and she'll be sweet

Update time.....
No kids and a wet long weekend makes for plenty of shed time.
Managed to score some ali from the guy down the road...he was just about to go down to the metal recycle guys round the corner from us.
So managed to make a router sled for the Mak. Already had the planer bit.
Spent Saturday making the sled, Sunday a bit of tuning and the let's make wood chips (a lot of them)
Anyway the twist was worse than I had expected. Originally thought of 5mm of twist but once one the supports and rails set up it was 8mm.
So top down from 80mm thick to 75mm thick. Now all I have to do is fill the holes, voids and cracks, sand a attach the top to the base.
The start the mounting of the vice.

Your not wrong about the floor Ray. The shaving are 4" deep. It's really fun trudging around the workshop in the approved workshop footwear (leather thongs).
I'll clean it up when all else is done.
Your right, the pick up of the ali was a god send as it would cost about $300 to buy it all. The only real pain was putting the 100+ rivets in.
The plate is two 19" server rack mount covers riveted together. Scored three packs (5 in a pack) of them a long time ago from where I work.
They were just throwing them out.
The jig worked a dream even though I had to be really carefull not to run the planner bit into the side supports (hadn't built the side stops).
After the planing only a quick sand with 80 grit and all the furry edges disappered. Now just waiting for all the filler in the voids etc to dry then a sand with 80 then 150, then a wax job will happen.
