This is probably the last post on this as the bench is now finished. Unfortunately the colour hasn't mellowed this past week so I am just going to put up with it. The final steps were to make the vice handle which is just a piece of 28.6mm tas oak dowel that I reduced in size slightly with the aid of mu bench drill. Then I fitted a couple of ebony dowels to the ends to keep it in place and gave it a coat of clear sealer. I then fitted a sheet of rubberized cork gasket that I got from Supercheap to the outer jaw. It doesn't seem to have the rubber content of the crubber favoured by Derek but I will see how it performs.
